In Hindu Electional Astrology, Vyatipata Yoga and Vaidhriti Yoga are considered the most important times to avoid for starting any positive activity, such as opening a business, holding a celebration, a sacred ritual, etc. Vyatipata means “calamity,” and Vaidhriti means “separation.”
To complicate matters, these Yogas actually occur twice each month. Firstly, there are what I refer to as the “Real Vyatipata” and “Real Vaidhriti.” Both of these occur when there is an opposition between the sun and the moon, and they last approximately 4 hours. A schedule of when these occur can be found right here. These two Yogas are the worst times within the entire art and science of Muhurta Astrology. They are also sometimes referred to as “Mahapata.”
Secondly, Muhurta Astrology also has a cycle of 27 Yogas which repeats every month, and this cycle includes another Vyatipata Yoga and Vaidhriti Yoga, which we refer to here as the “Shadow Vyatipata,” and “Shadow Vaidhriti.” These two Yogas last for approximately one full day, and are also very harmful, but not as harmful as the Real Vyatipata and Vaidhriti Yogas. Any Muhurta or Panchang website should show on their schedule when those Yogas occur.
Since both Vyatipata and Vadhriti Yogas occur twice in each month, this may lead to some confusion. Hopefully our little explanation here will help to clear that up.
We here at Sphinx Ziggurat make it a special point to avoid both the Real and Shadow Vyatipata and Vaidhriti Yogas when clients are trying to find the most auspicious day and time to do something important, a service which can be found right here. Also, we specifically check if these very evil yogas show up in a horary chart, for if an event already has a date, or is just in the idea phase, a service which can be found right here.
